Empowering Palestinian Communities Through Sustainable Greywater Reuse

This Environmentally Sustainable Project (ESP) introduces off-grid greywater treatment systems using constructed wetlands to address severe water shortages in Palestinian West Bank communities. It includes social awareness and technical development, promoting integrated cross-border collaboration among Israeli, Palestinian, and potentially Jordanian experts on sustainable water solutions.

Medabrot Ivrit, Women Speaking Hebrew Alumni Culture Club

Medabrot Ivrit – Women Speaking Hebrew aims to remove the language barrier experienced by East Jerusalemite Palestinian women daily by providing practical, relevant, and culturally fit Hebrew language courses. Outcome: increase participants’ confidence and independence in public and private spheres. Over project’s 11-years, Lissan has developed textbooks & teaching materials that are culturally & politically sensitive & respond to the daily linguistic needs of participants. This advanced program serves fluent East Jerusalemite Palestinian women alumni, offering continued Hebrew practice, cultural exploration, and civic engagement led by binational educators and guest lecturers. It advances gender and linguistic justice in Jerusalem.

Monira Women’s Cooperative

This pilot initiative brings together 20 Israeli and Palestinian women affected by conflict to create marketable crafts using sustainable techniques like natural dyeing and up-cycling recycled/natural materials. The Community Garden in Jaffa – sustainable education & outreach to Jewish & Arab communities & families. Program teaches human, cultural, & ecological fabric of Jaffa, incl. urban nature tours, pot & seedling preparation activities, herb picking tours, DIY urban agriculture training sessions, & community gatherings. Meetings include joint conversation circle, participants get to know each other’s culture through personal stories, spending time together, & meals together. Further, garden & its related educational activities are also integrated into our 10 kindergartens & and elementary school for Jewish-Arab children, their families, & wider communities.

“Empowering Bedouin Girls: Bridging the Gap to Higher Education & Opportunities.” Remote, unrecognized Bedouin village of Abde in southern Israel-young women face significant barriers to education & personal development. Offering a comprehensive language & culture education program focusing on Hebrew Language skills for 12 women aged 18-20. Women are high school grads & are doing national volunteering in village school. This will build on previous year’s success, to provide these women with linguistic & social tools essential for integration into Israeli society, pursuit of higher education, & access to broader job opportunities. Program is crucial in current crisis, as language proficiency will be key factor in these women’s ability to navigate social, academic, & professional spheres.

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2025

Grassroots initiative by two female activists, one Jewish & one Arab. Mission-to create a safe & welcoming space for women of all walks of life to meet & create connections; empowering them to take control of their futures & their communities. The Cafe will host workshops & activities to support leadership development. A pop-up coffee shop initiative will be at the FKI Jewish-Arab Tennis Club in Moshav Beit Hanania, Carmel Coast region. It’s situated between Jewish & Arab communities. Urgent need for this has only grown since October 7th, underscoring the importance of building bridges between communities that rarely, if ever, interact.

Leadership Program in Israel and Palestine

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2025

The Peace Leadership Program – 3-year intensive experiential training for leaders committed to co-existence in Israel and Palestine. Group of 22 participants: 11 Israeli Jews and 11 Palestinians & includes settlers, Orthodox Jews, returned Zionists, Palestinians, secularists, mothers, former soldiers, daughters, & grandfathers all living in various areas of Israel & West Bank. The program’s activities take place in both Israel and Palestine. SIPP is supporting the gathering in The West Bank on May 4-10th, 2025.

This year, launching a new program for Levels B2 and C1 which combines the “Can Do” approach to language learning with digital literacy skills and accessing rights, it will help students to further navigate the public domain in Jerusalem.

Solidarity on the Court & in the Community continues ongoing programs – soccer club & after-school enrichment programs at community center that engages diverse Arab & Jewish youth in Haifa area. Soccer club practices daily & participates in national games & tournaments. Afterschool enrichment programs offer hobbies or academic tutoring. Gives Arab & Jewish youth space & activities to interact, work together & learn from each other & create a shared community. All initiatives promote mixed Arab-Jewish, people-to-people interaction & shared society, aiming to shape communal relations amongst diverse populations of Haifa-Jews, Arabs, Christians, Muslims, Ethiopians & Bahai, while accomplishing gains for the mixed soccer team in youth league tournaments.Facebook Page

10th Grade YOUNITED Programme

Givat Haviva International School (GHIS)
Mini-Grant Recipient – 2024

SIPP is supporting a portion of this introductory program at this coed boarding school in northern Israel which offers an IB high school program for an equal number of Jewish and Palestinian students. In this program, 10th graders learn conflict resolution training and leadership development through weekly dialogue and encounters. The program is intended to prepare the students for success in the 11th and 12 grades.

Ayoun el Sahar (Desert Eyes)

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2024

The project’s goal is to promote women’s education in the unrecognized Bedouin
Village of Abde, the sourthernmost Bedouin village in Israel. Two teachers will teach
language courses in Hebrew, Arabic and English for two groups of six women. Lessons
will take place in a class at a local school, the village’s only public facility. Basic
language studies will help the women become an example to their children and families,
and ultimately boost their chances of successfully attaining gainful employment and
mobility in positions that require Hebrew, English and Arabic speakers.

Relief-Grant Recipient – 2024

One of two relief grants made to Keshet, this grant helped Keshet provide cultural programming to both internally displaced refugees from the Gaza envelope communities and local Bedouin communities. Keshet is located in Mitzpe Ramon, in southern Israel.

Community Garden in the Heart of Jaffa

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2024

The Community Garden in Jaffa provides sustainable education of local Jewish and Arab communities, through joint activities and monthly workshops for both Jewish and Arab families. The Orchard of Abraham’s Children (OAC) has participants experience and learn about the human, cultural, and ecological fabric of Jaffa, with urban nature tours, gardening and picking tours, DIY urban agriculture training sessions and more. Through conversation circles the participants get to know each other’s culture through personal stories, time together, and sharing meals. The garden and its related educational activities are also integrated into OAC’s kindergarten and elementary schools for Jewish-Arab children.

Connecting through Roots

This program aims to build bridges between Israeli and Palestinian children aged 6-10 by using the universal language of art. There will be four online meetings for a small group of 12 children (6 Israelis and 6 Palestinians) to explore themes such as personal identity, shared society, and a mutual love for nature and the environment.

Eco-Agriculture Field Trip

Jewish and Arab high school students participate in a three-day field trip as a part of their eco-agricultural vocational training track, giving them tools to be leaders in the field of sustainability. Students will meet with innovators and experts in sustainable agriculture, gaining hands-on experience and insight which enrich their studies and inspire them to continue engaging with these pressing issues.

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2024

There will be one or two events that include workshops (for up to 150 people each) that teach non-violent communications, storytelling, family constellations that are conducted in a moveable museum showcasing all the Palestinian culture (inclusive of its industry, entertainment, educational, farming aspects) before and after 1948. The first event is planned for May, 2024.

First Aid Training

Keshet
Relief-Grant Recipient – 2024

One of two relief grants made to Keshet, this grant assisted Keshet in providing first aid training and first aid kits to members of the local Bedouin community. Many members of the local Bedouin community do not have ready access to safe rooms and shelters during rocket attacks from Gaza, and have suffered injuries from those attacks.

Joint Jewish-Arab Summer Camp

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2024

SIPP is supporting this long-standing nonprofit focused on peace through tennis and sports for youth, for the 2024 FKI’s Summer Camps for Jewish and Arab Children. The camps offer a unique weeklong experience aimed at promoting physical activity, skill development, and intercultural dialogue among participants aged 9-12. The day camp has a dynamic schedule including fitness and tennis training as well as a diverse array of workshops with professional facilitators covering topics such as team building, conflict resolution, body image, gender roles, dance/yoga, healthy eating, traditional cooking and ethnic dancing, expressive skills, leadership training, and community social responsibility projects (such as green day and recycling education).

Medabrot Irit, Women Speaking Hebrew Teacher Training

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2024

Lissan is a grassroots non-profit organization that advances gender and social equality in Jerusalem, and that works to bridge the gap between East & West Jerusalem by advancing linguistic justice and a vision of a bilingual Hebrew-Arabic Jerusalem. With SIPP’s grant, Lissan is able to provide more practical and accessible Hebrew language classes, based on needs of East Jerusalemite Palestinian women. Israeli & Palestinian volunteer teachers (50 – 70 people) will teach 400-500 women. The training for the teachers emphasizes cultural sensitivity and how to work in Israeli-Palestinian teams and shared spaces during times of war and tension.

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2024

A bilingual introductory permaculture course for 12 pioneers in Issafiya, a unique village near Haifa. It is described as a place of cultural diversity and natural beauty, with Druze, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities. Over the course of eight meetings, participants will learn permaculture principles, traditional farming methods, and herbal gardening. This project will culminate in a public event, launching a new center. Issafiya stands as a symbol of unity amidst diversity. The Day After is a collaborative Israeli and Palestinian initiative to envirion a transformed future for their war-torn area.

This Sinsila Center project is focused on Palestinian youth working on practical sustainability, innovation, and community empowerment in Jerusalem’s Abu Tor neighborhood. Safe Room and Safety Infrastructure

Relief-Grant Recipient – 2024

This Arab-Jewish Montesori School in the Lower Galilee needed a safe room and other physical improvements to keep the chidren and staff safe from the constant attacks from Lebanon and Syria in the wake of the October 2023 war. SIPP provided a small Relief Grant to assist the school. Keshet is located in Mitzpe Ramon, in southern Israel.

The program includes monthly workshops for Jewish and Arab families from Jaffa which

with activities such as urban nature tours, pot, and seedling preparation activities, picking
tours, DIY urban agriculture training sessions and more. Each meeting will include a joint
social activity of a conversation circle, where the participants will get to know each other’s
culture through personal stories, spending time together, and partaking in meals together. The activities are run by a group of community members, most of them are parents in the
Orchard bi-language kindergartens. It will take place in the community garden and
community center of The Orchard of Abraham’s Children and will be open to the residents
of the Lev Jaffa neighborhood.

Reviving Biara

Middle East Initiatives
Mini-Grant Recipient – 2023

The El Biara project intends to revive the farming heritage of the city of Jaffa. Inspired
by the Sinsila Center, El Biara will be located in the entrance to historical Jaffa, in the
garden of a local cultural center. It will be dedicated to educate, inspire, create with,
and empower the local community in reconnecting with its farming heritage and
reviving the local urban farming. Its goal will be to reconnect the urban modernity into
the agricultural history of the city of Jaffa.

Rooftop Farming in Al-Ama’ri Refugee Camp

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2023

As part of a holistic effort to stimulate the economic engagement and social
empowerment of the most vulnerable members of Palestinian society, this project is
piloting a rooftop food production area in the Al-Am’ari refugee camp in the West Bank.
By providing the tools for members of the community to learn to build their own
hydroponic systems with available resources in the camp (in addition to priorly
acquired materials) strengthening capacity building. The initiative aims to empower
women and youth to participate in the creation of an environmentally sustainable
project contributing to food security, upskilling towards the creation of green jobs
opportunities, and improvement of microclimate and personal resiliency..

Speak Up

Beit Systems Ali
Mini-Grant Recipient – 2023

Beit System Ali’s bi-national youth project Speak Up, is a
music, leadership and civic engagement program during which Israeli and Palestinian
young people participate in musical and creative writing workshops that empower
them, promote respect for one another’s narratives, encourage the embracing of
differences and provide inspiration for artistic creation. The workshops are based on the
history of hip-hop and rap music which grew from the Black culture in the USA as tools
for cultural expression and socio-political change. Throughout Speak Up the young
people acquire artistic tools from music, rap and hip hop with which they explore their
own voices, lead a collaborative creative process, and articulate their vision for the
change they want to promote in their communities. Since hip-hop and rap have been
historically male-dominated and fraught with sexist language, Speak Up focuses
heavily on the empowerment of young women in music and the promotion of
respectful, non-violent discourse. The program culminates in the co-creation of a
multi-lingual artistic product like these original songs and music videos created in past
programs.

Tend the Land and Care for it

Center for Freedom and Justice
Mini-Grant Recipient – 2023

This is a cooperation between Hava & Adam
sustainable education farm, Modien, Israel and the Center for Freedom and Justice
(CFJ) -Beit Ummar, Palestine organization.
The project aims to implement a composting program at Beit Ummar by instructing a
group of “Master Composters” in the community, to divert organic waste and use it as a
resource for the production of at least three marketable products – thermophilic
compost, vermicompost and BSF larvae.
Pending the successful implementation of the first stage, a second stage of this project
would will involve the implementation of sustainable agriculture practices, bamboo
forestry, and the creation of a local currency in order to establish a truly sustainable,
economically viable, responsible and self-perpetuating

AMAL (the Hebrew acronym for “Spoken Arabic for All”) is a non-profit Israeli organization that works to make Arabic and Arab culture more accessible to Jewish children in order to promote tolerance and mutual respect between Jewish Israelis and Arab Israelis. This project provides scholarships to Arab Israeli university students to teach Arabic and Arab culture to Jewish Israeli 5th-grade students in & around Tel Aviv.

Peace and Sustainability Ambassadorship

A joint ambassadorship for three students (Israeli, Palestinian, and an international student) at an international high school near Tel Aviv to represent the issues of peacebuilding and environmental sustainability among the student body, and promote awareness and cultural approaches to change making with students from both sides of the conflict.

“Place-Making” refers to a collaborative process to improve public space. This project focuses on environmental issues and integrates them into the public space of Taybe, Israel, to raise awareness to the importance of protecting the environment while using creative ways to utilize waste as a means of conveying a social message.

Mini-Grant Recipient – 2022

This project will provide a background course on the development and maintenance of rooftop gardens, with a focus on vertical farming. With ongoing mentorship and subsidies for initial equipment, it will enable local families to develop gardens of their own across the city. Through this, they will develop new and green open spaces, support local nutrition and food security, and generate a sustainable source of income through local production or through offering ecotourism activities. In addition, while educating about the surrounding environment, this program will also empower local communities by reconnecting locals with their farming heritage.

SIPP has funded this extraordinary center before and are we pleased to assist them again with their crucial work.

This project will establish a rainwater catching project as an educational tool for teaching about the water cycle and its importance at an Arab elementary school in Barta’a. Barta’aa straddles both sides of the Green Line in Northern Israel/West Bank and is in the Hadera water basin.

The Online Majlis: A Regional Dialogue
